week 7: mpumudde, uganda
This week hasn't been nearly as crazy as the last! Transfers happened and I am serving with Elder Matarirano from Zimbabwe. I am still In Mpumudde and was called to be the Disctrict Leader. My companion is 25 years old and is going home in 4 months. Elder Mofokeng is still here in the district and his new companion is Elder Ashman from Orem, Utah. He is going home at the end of this transfer.
I am starting to really know my area and the people in it. I am becoming Ugandian. I can bargain with the people and buy things for what they really cost! When people see a white skinned Mazungu they tripple the cost. I know that cost of things now and can get things for their original price.
The weeks are all starting to seem like days and the months like weeks. Time really does fly.
We are teaching a huge family, and we go and see them almost everynight. This past week at the end of the lessons a drunk man has come and joined our lesson. We visit them at 7pm everyday and it is dark towards the end of the lesson. This man drags his alcohol influenced body to us and stars shouting and saying the weirdest things? After everything we would say he would repeat and thow his arms around. One night He was with us as we were praying and was saying,"praise the Lord" after every sentence.... This man is completely plastered... So last night after the lesson we kept telling him to take us to his home and then we would start to walk with him and then stop and he would continue on his way talking to himself and thowing his arms around and we just turned around and walked the opposite way. haha is actually really funny. We saw him in the day time sober and we were shocked at the way he was acting... He was a humbled man!
This sunday we didn't have any baptisms, but are preparing a few for next week. The people are really awesome! We met a women that has a small shop by our home and she is totally ELECT! She loves to learn about the bible and Jesus. She came to church last week and is always so nice and grateful to us as missionaries!
Another one of our Investigators taught Relief Society this sunday!!! How crazy is that! She isn't baptized and has only been coming for 3 weeks and she is already teaching! We hope to baptize her and 3 of her brothers this next week!
We killed one of the many rats this week that live in our house! We chased a few around after we smoked them out of the bottom of our broken oven and chased them into a couch. We took the couch out side and scared them out! We only killed one of them, but home to get the rest of them soon! Also I think we had bed bugs because I have bumps all over my legs that are huge!
With transfers things have been different. I have had to alter or adjust my teaching to be come compatible with my companion. We are learning to mesh together more and understand one anothers teaching approaches. It is always awesome to learn new things as you teach. Ideas and Words and thoughts come into my mind is we teach and I know it is the spirit guiding us as missionaries to touch the hearts of our investigators.
In 2 kings 2:22-23 There is a story about the prophet Elijah that I came across. When I read this short story I laughed! Children were mocking the prophet because he was bald. they were saying," Go up thou bald head, go up thou bald head." And I guess the prophet got sick of them because he cursed them in the name of the Lord and after he cursed them 2 she-bears came out of the forest and at 42 children... I laughed at first because I thought I had misread the story, but Elijah really send bears to eat these 42 children that were mocking him!
I hope everything on the otherside of the world is doing well! I hope that we can all really try to seek the Lord for guidence and recognize His hand in our life. I know that all things happen for a reason. I know that God puts trials in our lives because he loves us and wants us to become strong! I love all of you and wish you the best. Thank you for the prayers and the support!
