week 9: mpumudde, uganda
The weeks here on mission are so interesting when it comes to time? When I think about what to write about I can't remember what happened? All of the days seem to just mesh together? haha It is something that I am sure we have all felt, but now that I am on mission I have really been able to know what it feels like.
This week as my companion and I were walking to an appointment we saw a women and a man chopping up a tree that had fallen down, so we offered our help... We were there chopping for about 30 minutes and while we were chopping 4 different people came up to us and asked us about our chuch or about our badges, or something that sparked their interest. We were able to get their contacts and meet with each of them including the man and women we helped. I have a stong testimony that service does bring forth inspiration. In this situation the inspiration came to those passing by us. It was really awesome to have that experience and I am grateful for that moment we had to stop and help.
This week I went to Bugembbe to perform 2 baptismal interviews for the District leader there because he can't do them for his investigators. The chapel they have there is so nice! It is a beautiful building with nice grass fields and a big parking lot and the chapel is similar to one we would find at home, but as for our Branch in Mpumudde we are just renting a small building and have church under a tent! The interviews went well and they both were ready for baptism and were baptized yesterday.
My companion has been suffering from Chronic Diharhea for the past 2 weeks so one of the senior couples picked us up and we went to a clinic in Jinja. This clinic was a lot better than the one I went to when I had Malaria. He got a lot of pills and now is feeling a lot better.
It was Elder Ashman's birthday yesterday and we went to lunch and dinner at members homes! one woman even bought him a little cake that tasted similar to Play-dough! It was so sweet of her. She made rice and beef and it was good! then we went to one of my investigators for dinner and they made us pumpkin, gusava, tomatoes with garlic, cabbage, and pork! it was so good! oh and I probably drink 5 soda's a day here! they are only 1000 shillings, which is 26 cents is USD. You would think I would be getting fat, but actually I have had to tighten up my belts.... I weighed 195 when I was in the MTC, but now I think I am about 180…
There is a really awesome scripture with a cool crossword type answer in it! in 2 Nephi 12:2 It talks about in the last days the lords house will be established in the top of the mountains. (I took a picture of it) It is ironic that the letters like up vertically to spell out UTAH.. I don't think that is just luck, but that it is inspiration. Makes me think of the rapid work and the gospel that is spreading! I can't believe that Cedar City is getting a temple!
Also in Alma 26:11-12 I love how it describes how we should direct ourselves when inquiring about the Lord!
Forgive me for the short email this week. I am going on exchanges with our Zone leaders and don't have much time to email, and the internet today is very slow. I love you all very much.
Elder Halladay
